Basement floor poured and water meter installed

The concrete for the basement floor was poured today and they were finishing up smoothing it out when we left. The huge tall thing you will see is the concrete pump that is attached to the concrete truck. It allows them to get the hose that the concrete is pumped through out over the walls and to the places that they need to reach.
Here one of men is smoothing the surface of the concrete by hand using a wide tool.

Here at the left are the pipes for future bathroom fixtures in the basement.

Another view of the same from the back of where the workshop area will be.
Here is a better view of the concrete pump. The height of it allows it to maneuver out over the job site to get the hose with the concrete being pumped through it where they need to get it since they can't get the truck in there anymore since the walls are up. That's a big truck so you can see how tall the thing is.
The man with the big round machine is smoothing the floor before it hardens completely.
The drainage pipes also now have the stuff over them that keeps the dirt from getting into the pipe but allows water in them so the water can be diverted away from the foundation.

The Oneonta Utilities board put in the water meter either yesterday or today. They had to dig up the road since their water line is across the road. It still will need to be hooked up to the water pipes that go down to our land. Scott and Kathy will have someone do that at some point.

It looks like (weather permitting) we're still a week and a half or more away from putting the first logs up. The subfloor has to be laid, the dirt backfilled around the walls, and maybe even putting the deck all the way around the house. Scott's wife, Kathy, said that they believe they'll do the deck first for a couple of reasons. First, it will give the workers a surface to walk on when doing other work since by the time this thing is done it is going to be VERY tall from the ground and also so that Kathy (my Kathy) may be able to walk around the site some to see for herself what is happening. Right now she pretty much has to stay in the car and look from afar. Once they get the deck up and the stuff cleared out from in front of the house she may be able to get up close to the action to see the progress.

We may not go up there tomorrow. :-( When we got home tonight (Wednesday, 8/01) we discovered that we have a huge water leak in the front passenger floorboard of the Jeep! I think that it may just be a clogged drain from the A/C evaporator. If I can see it and unclog it I may, but I may need to take the Jeep to a pro tomorrow and get that fixed. The floor was full of water!

I'm very sorry about the Jeep. Hope that got fixed without too much ado.

That's very scary alright. I hope you are both no worse off today for the wear and tear of that episode. It's always a tough decision of when to call for help vs trying one more thing. How far away is the emergency response team?

Minor question. What is the infiltrator and what does it do? Tom, 8/12/07
