2008_05_08 Fireplace in bedroom and kitchen getting ready for cabinets

The fireplace in the bedroom is taking shape. Also, there has been a log siding wall put up in the kitchen inside the exterior log wall. That is so that the cabinets can be mounted to it instead of the logs themselves. That's so the cabinets won't be affected by any future settling of the log wall due to shrinkage of the logs as they age. The log siding is mounted to 2x4 studs that are mounted to the exterior logs with nails that go through vertical slots in the 2x4s so that as the logs shrink (and therefore become slightly shorter) the nails in the logs are allowed to float downward with the logs and the log siding wall isn't affected at all by the shrinkage. It's a log home thing.

Here's the bedroom fireplace.

The one below is the view of the kitchen.
